Attract Native Bees

People often ask “Which plants will attract native bees?”
Native bees will travel approximately 500 metres to forage for nectar and pollen.

Native Flowering Plants

Australian native flowering plants such as tea tree attract native bees.

Melaleuca Alterna-Folia is a particularly powerful tea-tree with significant medicinal qualities.

Experimentation is just beginning to discover whether native bees which forage on Melaleuca Alterna-Folia produce more “powerful” honey.

Herbs

Herbs which we can easily grow in our gardens are very attractive to native bees.

Basil is a favourite! If you watch the video you will see my native bees having a lovely time in our flowering basil plants.

Native bees also love sage, rosemary, thyme, oregano and other flowering herbs.

Sweet Flowers

Tetragonula Carbonaria stingless bees love the sweetness of the nectar of Agave flowers.

Other favourites are Lavender, Agapanthas and Sweet Alice (both white and purple varieties.)

Free Herb Pot with every Hive Purchase…

When you purchase a native bee hive from us we will provide you with a herb pot to help your little bees settle in and feel at home!

I try to grow as many native flowering plants as possible as these are obviously their natural food but native bees also love other plants which produce lots of pollen.
